The combination of sustained trading losses, the current economic climate and a nationwide decline in the demand for golf has meant that the operation of Laleham is no longer commercially viable. Laleham Golf Course, which was rescued from bankruptcy in following its purchase from the members at that time, has previously received significant investment in both the course and its facilities in an effort to enhance the experience at the course, attract new players and bring financial stability and success to the club.

Unfortunately, despite the initial and subsequent investment and the introduction of several different structures, the club has continued to make significant trading losses.

Dating is serious business when you have to invest your time and resources on the hunt. The fastest way to find your perfect match is with a quality online dating service that attracts a large crowd of members.

During that time we have made very many friends and have always been encouraged by our knowledgeable readership. Thank you for your support over the years. The days of websites such as this are numbered. When KirkwoodGolf started, there was no such thing as smartphones, and most people were still using dial-up to get on the internet from home. Finding results was difficult as many organisations did not have websites , and those that did were often difficult to find. We collated the news and displayed it on one screen, later turning it into a blog as it was easier to post news stories that way.

Your editors are both busy people, with other interests and responsibilities, and finding the time to keep the website up to date has become problematic. For these reasons we have come to the decision to close the KirkwoodGolf website. I’d like to thank Colin Farquharson and Carol Fell, who have made fantastic contributions both in content and support.

Brancumhall Golf Development Centre

In , its forerunner, the Society of St Andrews Golfers, appointed Allan Robertson as a ball-maker and Hugh Philip, a local carpenter, as its club-maker. Using thorn, apple and pear woods for heads and ash for the shafts, Philip mastered his craft, revolutionising play with shapes that, literally, broke the mould. He was a quiet and thoroughly respectable man with exquisite taste, while he was simple in his manner.

Under his reign, imported hickory was dried under cover by the side of the 17th fairway at St Andrews.

Back in when you started up WebPersonals. I knew that the Internet was going to be revolutionary the first time I saw how it enabled people worldwide to see postings instantaneously. At that time, the dating industry was split between traditional matchmakers and newspaper personals. It was clear to me that it was easier, faster, and cheaper to use a central online database than to go to a niche matchmaker or use phone-based newspaper personals.

Is there any new technology that you see getting incorporated into online dating that will revolutionize it?

A groundskeeper was spotted riding around in a golf cart and using a rifle to gun down tiny gophers at the president’s course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. It seemed the club aimed to keep the course pest-free, as the rifleman was chauffeured around the 18th hole firing at the rodents on Tuesday afternoon. The comic scene is strangely similar to Bill Murray’s film Caddyshack, where the actor played a crazed groundskeeper who tried to rid gophers from the course.

Photos show the man being driven around the plush grounds by another groundskeeper in a golf cart. He stared down the barrel of the gun while firing off rounds at the little critters. The city code declares that it is illegal for anyone to fire a ‘gun, revolver, pistol, firearm, spring gun, air gun, sling, slingshot’ that would release ammunition.

The city can issue permits to fire a weapon in certain circumstances to protect agriculture, but there hasn’t been any permits issued in more than 10 years, an official told ABC News. The groundskeeper stared down the barrel of the gun while firing off rounds at the little critters It wasn’t clear what type of ammunition was fired at the rodents but the city prohibits firing weapons. Gophers can wreak havoc on a golf course because they burrow into the ground, digging up dirt and creating a mess.

Their little holes can reach six feet underground with a network of tunnels, which could lead to an infestation. They are an expensive pest to rid and can cause serious damage to landscaping and property value, according to United Wildlife Control.

Eagles are uncommon but not rare; however, only 18 players have scored an albatross in a men’s major championship. Stroke play is more popular. Match play Two players or two teams play each hole as a separate contest against each other in what is called match play. The party with the lower score wins that hole, or if the scores of both players or teams are equal the hole is “halved” or tied. The game is won by the party that wins more holes than the other. In the case that one team or player has taken a lead that cannot be overcome in the number of holes remaining to be played, the match is deemed to be won by the party in the lead, and the remainder of the holes are not played.

At any given point, if the lead is equal to the number of holes remaining, the party leading the match is said to be “dormie”, and the match is continued until the party increases the lead by one hole or ties any of the remaining holes, thereby winning the match, or until the match ends in a tie with the lead player’s opponent winning all remaining holes. When the game is tied after the predetermined number of holes have been played, it may be continued until one side takes a one-hole lead.

Stroke play is the game most commonly played by professional golfers. If there is a tie after the regulation number of holes in a professional tournament, a playoff takes place between all tied players.
